Day 1 (Friday): Rome

Welcome to Italy!
Arrive in Rome and meet your driver who will take you to the Hotel Ponte Sisto in Rome. After checking in, meet with your Tour Assistant for an overview of the tour. Take this opportunity to ask any questions you may have and get to know each other. Enjoy free time on your first day to relax in the quiet garden of the hotel’s internal cloister, or venture out to explore your nearby surroundings. The Piazza Navona is nearby and you’ll also find the Pantheon and the ancient Via Giulia easy to get to. Celebrate your first night in Rome with a Welcome dinner at a local restaurant, then return to Hotel Ponte Sisto to overnight in Rome. (Accommodation may at times be provided at an alternative Hotel, according to availability).

Day 2 (Saturday): Rome (Vatican)

This morning you’ll visit the Vatican City, easily one of Italy’s most famous destinations. Your tour includes entry to the Vatican Museum. Tour commentary is in English, or request Russian, French, Spanish or Portuguese if you prefer. Enjoy a free afternoon to explore more of Rome – perhaps the famous Spanish Steps leading to the Piazza di Spagna and the boat shaped fountain, Fontana della Barcaccia? Overnight at Hotel Ponte Sisto

Day 3 (Sunday): Rome

Today you’ll venture out to discover Rome’s oldest and most breathtaking landmarks as we visit the Colosseum and surrounds. Explore the local night life or dine out on your last night in Rome, then overnight at Hotel Ponte Sisto.

Day 4 (Monday): Rome – Polignano a Mare – Caserta – Apulia

Your minivan will collect you this morning for your transfer to Polignano a Mare. Stop in Caserta en route for a guided visit of the Royal Palace, originally constructed for the Bourbon Kings of Naples. Next stop for today is lunch at a local tourism farm before we continue the journey into Apulia. Arrive late afternoon at Hotel Covo Dei Saraceni in Positano. Finish your day with a delicious dinner in the hotel dining room and overnight at Hotel Covo dei Saraceni.

Day 5 (Tuesday): Apulia – Matera – Alberobello – Masseria – Apulia

Meet your driver after breakfast and depart for your visit to Matera & Alberobello. Matera is renowned for its Ancient Town, known as “Sassi di Matera” (meaning “stones of Matera”). The Sassi originate from a prehistoric settlement, and are thought to be some of the first human settlements in Italy. Lunch at Masseria includes a wine tasting before returning to your hotel in the late afternoon. Overnight at Covo dei Saraceni.

Day 6 (Wednesday): Apulia – Lecce – Apulia

Start the day with a delicious breakfast, then meet your driver to depart for a guided visit to Lecce, where you’ll take a fascinating step back into Roman times, visiting some of the most important Roman ruins on the Appian Way. Your guide will provide commentary in English, or request Russian, French, or Spanish if you prefer. Soak in the atmosphere of Lecce’s Roman amphitheatre built to seat 25,000 people; see the Colonna Romana, now standing in the Piazza Sant’Orozo. This 2nd Century AD Roman column once marked the end of the Appian Way. Return to Positano and overnight at Covo dei Saraceni.

Day 7 (Friday): Apulia – Bari – Apulia

Depart early with your driver for a half day visit to Bari, capital of the Apulia region and second largest city in Southern Italy. Situated on the Adriatic coast, the city of Bari is a fascinating mix of old and new. From Byzantine ruins and unique old town areas still surrounded by their protective walls to the bustling activity of the New Harbor, you’ll find Bari a city of contrasts. Return to your hotel in the early afternoon.
