Turin, Italy’s First Modern Capitol, Rocks Italy’s 150th Reunification Anniversary

We at Tour Italy Now have not forgotten that this year is the 150th Anniversary of Italy’s Reunification. There have been big celebrations across Italy all year, as we noted them in this blog post. Celebrations marking the event are taking place all over Italy, in fact, around the world, including Hong Kong and the Phillipines!

But we wanted to call your attention to Turin, Italy’s first modern capitol. You can check out what’s been happening, and will happen, in Turin all year HERE. Also, here’s an article about Turin from The Guardian, the U.K.’s fabulous newspaper on what Turin, the site of the 2006 Winter Olympics. Turin and the Piedmont are the focus of one of Tour Italy Now’s newest tours, Discover Piedmont. Here’s a description:

This small-group, deluxe tour of the enchanting Piedmont region starts in Turin, Italy’s first modern capital, home to Italian nobility and host of the 2006 Winter Olympics, where you’ll marvel at its architecture and swoon over its chocolates. Off to Monferrato and Asti, land of undulating terrain, for wine and walks, and on to the Italian Riviera, with stops in Cinque Terre and Portofino. In Parma, on the edges of the Emilia Romagna — and yes, it’s where the cheese comes from — for a guided tour and lunch and then on to Como, on Lake Como, for more of the same. Andiamo!

If you are fascinated by the Italian language, you can plan to be in Turin for the 80th International Congress of the Dante Alighieri Society. It takes place in Turin from 30 September to 2 October.

Yours in celebrating Italy,
Barbara Fellini
