A Totally Cool Website About Italy

Intent on learning more about Bernalda, I clicked around and to my surprise and delight discovered what could possibly be the absolute coolest website devoted to Italy, at least in English: Launched earlier this year by Mikaela Bandini, a design/travel/scout, the site covers culture, food, hospitality, personalities. It’s something you should definitely check out if you are planning a trip to Italy or simply dreaming about taking a trip to Italy. This is a site that’s got its pulse on some of the neatest trends in Italy, from chefs to [...]

It’s Official! Italy is the Top Travel Choice of Americans!

Even though this comes as no surprise, we wanted to trumpet this news with the Tour Italy Now community: According to a new survey, a trip to Italy remains choice #1 for Americans! This finding is from Harris Survey, one of the top pollings firms in the world, and is based on interviews with 2,183 Americans age 18 and over. Italy tops the list, with Great Britain, Australia, Ireland and France rounding out the top five. Italy is the top travel choice of americans! What’s fascinating, at least to yours truly and we hope to you, too, is that Italy has held the top first or second spot going back to 2000, with a dip to third place in 2002. In the late 1990s, Italy placed fourth, which is hardly shabby. But this past decade has been great for Italy. We called Harris to get a sense of the numbers, [...]

For anyone who’s planning a trip to Italy, or dreaming about one, a great place for sussing out seriously delicious restaurants in Italy is Chowhound Italy Board. For the uninitiated, Chowhound is one of the oldest online communities. It was started in 1997 by Jim Leff. He sold it to in 2006. The site is grouped by locale and topic. I stumbled upon the Chowhound Italy board the other day as I researched places to eat before my trip to Italy, and had a great time clicking around threads started by people asking about the best restaurants in Rome or Milan or Bologna or, an ever-popular topic, the best gelateria in Florence or some other city. Someone asked for a suggestion for a wedding gift, a gift certificate to [...]
