This region on the Adriatic is so much more than its namesake Venice. While the city of canals is surely one of the world’s greatest destinations, anyone who speeds through the Veneto to and from Venice will surely miss some great things. Take for instance Verona, home to Romeo and Juliet. This well-preserved city hosts one of the world’s great opera festivals each summer. Spectators hold candles while sitting under the stars in the city’s ancient colosseum listening to incredible voices carry through the air. For architecture buffs, Veneto offers villas designed by Andrea Palladio. The town of Bassano del Grappa is home to the white asparagus while Albano is known for its spas.
