Rome to Amalfi Coast and Capri Deluxe (8 Day Tour)
Tour Description
This deluxe, small-group tour starts with three days in Rome and then on to five more on the Amalfi Coast, where the Italian elite have vacationed for centuries. In Rome, you’ll take a guided walking tour, visiting the Eternal City’s must-sees, from the Piazza Navona to the Spanish Steps to the Pantheon. On a guided tour of the Vatican, you’ll behold masterpiece upon masterpiece. Every visitor seems to leave with a favorite, whether it’s the Hall of Maps or the stunning Sistine Chapel. En route to the Amalfi Coast, you’ll visit Pompeii, the spectacular ancient city that was preserved when Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. (Look for the graffiti on some of the walls!) Sorrento, the quaint village on the Bay of Naples, will be your base for the balance of the tour, which includes outings to the island of Capri, the enclave of Positano and, of course, a ride along the jaw-droppingly scenic Amalfi Drive. Throughout the tour, you’ll dine in local restaurants and trattorias, sampling the world-famous cucina italiana. Andiamo!View Rome to Amalfi Coast in a larger map

Discovered by accident in 1599, and eventually excavated, the ruins offer a window onto the ancient world. After visiting Pompeii, you’ll have lunch in a typical trattoria at the edge of Mt. Vesuvius. Arrive in Sorrento late afternoon and learn about Sorrento and your activities in town. Dinner will be served in a local restaurant in the heart of Sorrento. Overnight in Sorrento.
