The eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD buried the city of Pompeii and was accidentally rediscovered in 1599. This partially buried Roman town gives insightful details of the city life at the height of the Roman Empire. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most visited attractions in Italy and was included on the Grand Tour. The tourism body of Pompeii also issue tickets which allows and encourage tourists to visit the nearby sites of Herculaneum and Stabiae, and Villa Poppaea to help in the conservation program of the site.
