2017 Music Festivals in Italy That You Should Go To

Street musicians performing in Florence, Italy

Music and wine are just two things that Italy is famous for. And while an excess of the latter can become an issue, there’s nothing stopping you from immersing yourself in the musical bounty that Italy has to offer.

This summer, there are various music festivals all across the country that you can attend and experience good music. Below is a list of some upcoming and ongoing festivals that you can still catch.

Home Festival (Treviso)

Currently on its 8th run, this is one of the more prominent music festivals in Northern Italy. It offers a very expansive line-up of both local and international artists. You can expect to see artists like Afterhous, Fedez, and Levante from the local side, as well as international names like Duran Duran, Moderat, and Liam Gallagher who will be playing at the festival. The event will be held at Zona Dogana in Treviso from August 31 to September 3.

Verona Opera Festival (Verona)

If you’re looking for a more cultural music experience, Verona is hosting its world-famous opera festival again this year at the Roman amphitheater. Every production is always considered a hit, with its impressive cast and acoustics that draw a huge crowd every time. This year’s lineup includes the following operas: Carmen, La Traviata, and Aida. The festival will run from July 23 all the way until August 27.

Ravello Festival (Amalfi Coast)

There’s nothing quite like a spectacular view of the hillside while enjoying good music. The town of Ravello is hosting various performances throughout the year (from March 27 until December 3) atop the beautiful Villa Rufolo during the evenings. If you happen to be in Sorrento or around the Amalfi Coast area, then you owe it to yourself to listen to a night of amazing music. MITO Settembre Musica (Milan and Turin)

This festival takes place in several venues across Milan and Turin all throughout the month of September. It’s considered one of the biggest festivals in Italy and features various concerts and recitals that will please any music lover. The great thing about this event is that it isn’t constrained in any one location. Attendees will get to enjoy amazing sounds in historic churches, city piazzas, and even famous locations like the Duomo di Milano and the Teatro alla Scala. It offers a very eclectic selection of music – everything from opera, jazz, and contemporary.

Estate Musicale Chigiana (Siena)

If you happen to be in Siena this month, then why not drop by the Accademia Musicale Chigiana and listen to some of the most talented and renowned musicians play some classical music. The event also features up and coming talented young players who are attending the academy during the summer. The venues for the concerts vary, with venues including palazzos, churches, and historic theaters.
